Mango Variety: Pusa Lalima

Background:
Inadequate availability of quality planting material of new mango varieties is a major lacunae in their early commercialization. Hence, it takes long time for spread and commercialization of new genotypes especially which are having export potential. The vegetative method of propagation by the Public sector facilities are unable to fulfill the demand for bulk requirements for large scale planting. Hence, there lies a huge scope for early commercialization though Technology Details:
Upscaling of mass multiplication of the new mango genotypes through licensing by the private nurserymen/ entrepreneur is the best model to commercialize these new mango hybrids. This intervention would help in popularization and early establishment of orchards under these new mango hybrids in clusters. This which would also help in large scale production of planting material for enhancing production to meet the demand of local and export markets. The agreement would help in sharing of genuine mother plants along with scion sticks to the Licensee. Further, complete technical know-how of licensed variety for their vegetative multiplication would help in achieving commercial success. It is a unique hybrid having regularity in bearing, attractive fruit shape, bright red peel and orange pulp. The plants are semi-vigorous and about 278 plants of this hybrid may be accommodated in a hectare (6 m x 6 m). The red peel colour on yellowish green background makes it very appealing to the buyers. The fruit is medium sized (209 g), oblong in shape with good TSS and acid blend. It has medium TSS (19.7oBrix), rich in ascorbic acid content (34.73 mg/100 g pulp), and high pulp content (70.1%). It has 5 to 6 days shelf life at room temperature after ripening. Pusa Lalima is suitable for domestic and overseas markets, because of its attractive red coloured peel, fiberless pulp, mild flavour, medium TSS, excellent sugar: acid blend.
